Mansfield’s Propagation Nursery | 🕒 Full Time – 38 hrs/week
Mansfields Propagation Nursery is seeking a hands-on and motivated Tissue Culture Growing Coordinator to join our team on a full-time basis. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working directly with plants and is passionate about achieving outstanding growing outcomes through observation, problem-solving, and continuous improvement.
Working across our tissue culture, propagation, and advanced growing areas, you will play a key role in guiding plant material from laboratory production through acclimatisation and into nursery-ready stock. This is a practical, physically active position that combines crop management, plant handling, trial work, and production optimisation.
Key Responsibilities
- Work closely with laboratory and nursery teams to ensure the smooth transition of plant material from Stage 3 tissue culture to ex vitro production including providing practical assistance and technical guidance during tissue culture deflasking operations
- Assist with the implementation and ongoing development of sticking machine processes to improve efficiency and consistency within tissue culture production.
- Lead the development and optimisation of acclimatisation protocols for tissue culture plantlets.
- Monitor and document tissue culture crops daily and make informed decisions relating to plant growth, environmental conditions, nutrition, and production timing.
Provide regular feedback and recommendations to laboratory staff to support continuous improvement. - Participate in the day-to-day physical tasks associated with tissue culture propagation and growing operations, including plant handling, movement of stock, assessment of crop performance, and maintenance of growing environments.
- Conduct hands-on trial work to identify opportunities for improving plant performance and production efficiency. Analyse results and translate findings into practical, repeatable growing protocols.
About You
The successful candidate will have:
- Experience in horticulture, nursery production, propagation, tissue culture, or a related growing environment.
- A genuine passion for growing plants and achieving high-quality crop outcomes.
- A practical, hands-on approach and willingness to work actively within propagation and nursery environments.
- Strong observational skills and the ability to identify issues and opportunities within crops.
- Experience collecting and interpreting trial data to support production improvements.
- Excellent organisational and record-keeping skills.
- The ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with laboratory and nursery teams.
- A proactive mindset focused on continuous improvement and innovation.
